Outfit Ideas | Floral & Turquoise

As you can see from the gallery at the end of this post, white shorts + a loose blouse make up a lot of my go-to summer outfits. I especially love these white shorts because they are a canvas material instead of a denim which makes them feel a little dressier for evenings out–a common occurrence in the summer!

This blouse caught my eye in Loft because it’s so unlike anything else I have in my wardrobe. Without thinking, I always seem to gravitate towards solid colors or stripes in blouses and shirts, I think partly because I know exactly how to pair them with the other elements of my wardrobe. However, I have been trying to branch out and incorporate some actual prints, and this top was really a no-brainer.

I’ve already gotten so much use out of it at work, usually paired with trouser jeans, but love that it can transition to more casual settings. Over the next few months, I want to try to focus less on purchasing the perfect piece to add to my wardrobe, and more time figuring out how to make more pieces I already own work for more settings.

How do you find pieces that can be both professional enough for work, but also casual enough for a night out?

Outfit Ideas | Summer Scarf

First off, I just have to say Happy Anniversary to my husband–I can’t believe it’s already been four years! This is the second anniversary we’ve celebrated on the east coast, which also seems a little crazy. Time really does fly, I suppose! Last year, I was deep in battle with the millions of ants that had decided to take over our pantry. So far, so good this year! We had a slightly early celebration at a local Mexican food restaurant last night and are staying in and making burrito bowls for dinner tonight.

Outfit Ideas | Summer Scarf

Scarfs, especially a lightweight one like this, are really the perfect summer layering piece. I used to wear scarfs in the summer all the time, but with Virginia’s summer humidity, it makes it a little bit harder to pull off. However, sometimes the air will cool down enough right after a rainstorm to just be able to make it happen! I picked up this scarf at a little hair salon/boutique where my sister, mom, and I got our hair done for my sister’s wedding. My mom and I were both pretty obsessed with it, but somehow, I managed to convince her to let me take it home.

I paired the scarf with another one of my favorite summer combos: chambray and white denim. Add a little pop of color with the scarf and a little glitter with the shoes, and I’m one happy girl. Although, if you look at my shoes, you’ll notice that I do wear them for almost every outfit post these days–obsessed much?

Outfit Ideas | Summer Standard

So summer on the east coast–hot and humid much? I’ve always been used to the hot, but this humidity almost has me thinking about fall. If winter didn’t come immediately afterwards, I’d be much more for it!

When I do decide to brave the weather, this combo has basically been my go-to: patterned shorts + neutral top. Since I’m not working much, it can be hard to want to put on anything but running shorts and a workout top when I’m just running errands, but once I convince myself to, I feel like I’m actually part of the world again. Amazing how that happens, no?

I lucked out during my recent trip back home when I went to Banana Republic and stumbled across this pair of blue dotted shorts from their recent Marimekko collaboration in the sale section. They were literally the only pair left in the store–and in my size!–so I snatched them up and just as luckily, they fit perfectly.

The shorts are a bit longer and boxier than what I normally wear, so I would usually grab a more fitted top to help balance out the look. However, I feel like summer is the one time to definitely break the rule: the more flowy, the better. Well, at least to a certain extent that is.

Outfit Ideas | Take Me to the Sea

Graphic tees seem like such a commitment. I mean, what do I really want broadcasted all over myself?

Outfit Ideas | Spring Stripes

To me, there is really no better spring outfit than a casual dress, jean jacket, and sandals, perhaps because I used to live in a place where it was perpetually spring. It’s just such an easy, yet put together look that can transition from a trail walk to lunch downtown.

I have so many cute pairs of wedges + heels, but in order to walk places like I like to do, it’s pretty much impossible to wear them very often. I love this pair of Sam Edelman flats I purchased a few years ago, but they could still be a bit more comfortable, so I’m on the hunt for a pair of neutral gladiator sandals that can hold up to miles of walking. Any suggestions?

Jean Jacket: Gap (lighter color)
