Outfit Ideas | Rehearsal Dinner Maxi Dress

Greetings from sunny San Luis Obispo! I can’t believe we’re actually here!

Since we don’t have much time left on our Cali vacay, I’ll keep this short and to the point. This look was what I wore to a friend’s wedding rehearsal dinner last weekend in Philadelphia. And, actually, it’s also what I wore to my sister’s rehearsal dinner last year in Keystone, Colorado. I guess I kinda like it for that occasion, no?

I love the colors and pattern in this maxi dress and though it’s a bit hard to see in the photos, there’s a slit up each side that makes it super easy to walk in. I dressed it up with a fun bead strand necklace from Charming Charlie and my fav Kork Ease wedges to complete the look.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

Outfit Ideas | Nearly Monochromatic

This is me, totally oblivious to the fact that I had just sustained a concussion a half hour earlier. You know, since normal people don’t get concussions from putting away their make-up in the hall closet and smacking the side of their head in the process. I just figured I had a headache, and a minor one at that. Fast forward two days and with an onset of dizziness and difficulty concentrating, I went to the doctor and wouldn’t you know it, concussion. No fun.

The past two weeks have been trying, to say the least, and I am so ready to put them behind me for a fun weekend of wedding festivities before heading back to Cali for my last week of summer–there’s truly no better way to celebrate! In the meantime, I’ll be around here a bit, but I still have to be careful and ease back into my normal routines.

Outfit Ideas | Nearly Monochromatic

Back during normal, non-concussed summer day, I got bored one afternoon and decided to take a pair of scissors + a razor to do a little DIY distress action on this pair of grey Loft jeans. I loved the jeans, but I’d really only worn them once since I purchased them six months ago and felt like they needed a little something extra to make them more marketable in my wardrobe. It seemed to have worked because I’ve been wearing them all the time now–they’re even making the Cali trip!

Outfit Ideas | Nearly Monochromatic

I love this outfit both with and without the scarf. Without, it just has that polished monochromatic look from the front that I almost never go for, but love here. And when I turn around, there goes the monochromatic-ness anyway! But, I’m always a sucker for color, so I also love the pop the floral scarf adds to the front of the look as well.

Which do you prefer–all grey in the front or with the colorful scarf?

Outfit Ideas | Floral & Turquoise

As you can see from the gallery at the end of this post, white shorts + a loose blouse make up a lot of my go-to summer outfits. I especially love these white shorts because they are a canvas material instead of a denim which makes them feel a little dressier for evenings out–a common occurrence in the summer!

Outfit Ideas | Floral & Turquoise

This blouse caught my eye in Loft because it’s so unlike anything else I have in my wardrobe. Without thinking, I always seem to gravitate towards solid colors or stripes in blouses and shirts, I think partly because I know exactly how to pair them with the other elements of my wardrobe. However, I have been trying to branch out and incorporate some actual prints, and this top was really a no-brainer.

I’ve already gotten so much use out of it at work, usually paired with trouser jeans, but love that it can transition to more casual settings. Over the next few months, I want to try to focus less on purchasing the perfect piece to add to my wardrobe, and more time figuring out how to make more pieces I already own work for more settings.

Outfit Ideas | Floral & Turquoise

How do you find pieces that can be both professional enough for work, but also casual enough for a night out?

Floral Blouse: Loft (j.crew, sleeveless)

White Shorts: Gap Canvas (close, lace trim)

Brown Sandals: Kork Ease Della

Outfit Ideas | Summer Scarf

First off, I just have to say Happy Anniversary to my husband–I can’t believe it’s already been four years! This is the second anniversary we’ve celebrated on the east coast, which also seems a little crazy. Time really does fly, I suppose! Last year, I was deep in battle with the millions of ants that had decided to take over our pantry. So far, so good this year! We had a slightly early celebration at a local Mexican food restaurant last night and are staying in and making burrito bowls for dinner tonight.

Outfit Ideas | Summer Scarf

Scarfs, especially a lightweight one like this, are really the perfect summer layering piece. I used to wear scarfs in the summer all the time, but with Virginia’s summer humidity, it makes it a little bit harder to pull off. However, sometimes the air will cool down enough right after a rainstorm to just be able to make it happen! I picked up this scarf at a little hair salon/boutique where my sister, mom, and I got our hair done for my sister’s wedding. My mom and I were both pretty obsessed with it, but somehow, I managed to convince her to let me take it home.

I paired the scarf with another one of my favorite summer combos: chambray and white denim. Add a little pop of color with the scarf and a little glitter with the shoes, and I’m one happy girl. Although, if you look at my shoes, you’ll notice that I do wear them for almost every outfit post these days–obsessed much?
