I can’t believe it’s already almost halfway through October! It honestly feels like I just moved to England a few weeks ago but I’ve almost been here a month and a half, which is insane.
I was going through my wardrobe again a few days ago trying to mix and match to create a few new outfits with the few items I brought, and was kicking myself for not packing one of my fav floppy hats I wore all last fall because they’re such an easy way to mix up an outfit and add more texture.
I’m going to be searching for a perfect substitute at local stores here, but I’ll also round up some great (budget) options for you at the end of this post, in case you’re inspired to add one to your own fall wardrobe.
In the meantime, here’s 3 great ways to style floppy hats for fall (click the title to see the full styled look):
I played favorites here by pairing my fav maroon floppy hat here with my fav maroon bag to instantly create a sense of coherence and style. The maroon tones are slightly different so the matchy-ness doesn’t feel completely forced and instead, adds great fall color to an otherwise neutral outfit.
It may be full on fall here in the UK (where I think it’s really permanent fall all year round), but I know a lot of the U.S. is still experiencing summer weather. When I lived in San Luis Obispo, fall was always the hottest time of year! So instead of feeling left out of the fall fashion world, try adding a simple floppy felt hat, like I did here, to make any summer look feel more like a transition outfit.
While I often find myself reaching for my floppy hats when I’m wearing a jeans + blouse look, mix it up by adding one to your favorite dress. Then, simply pair the ensemble with ankle booties to bring the look together – add tights if it’s cold or keep your legs bare until the true fall weather hits.
As promised, here are my favorite budget floppy hat picks:
