This dress is just one I find myself reaching for over and over in my closet (see how I styled it the last time here) and so when I needed something to wear to for a trip to a local winery on summer solstice, I know this would make the perfect summer solstice festival dress – from the color to the embroidery, this dress just seems to embody a summer vibe.
I couldn’t resist adding braids in honor of the holiday and then paired the dress with flat gladiator sandals and my favorite bucket bag. The dress is definitely on the short side so flat sandals were a must and since the dress is really the showstopping piece on its own, I wanted the rest of the accessories to be pretty neutral.
Summer solstice is always one of my favorite days of the year and maybe it’s just the fantasy/historical fiction reader in me, but it always conjures up images of bonfires, flower crowns, dancing, and staying up all night. We’ll be in the UK next year for the solstice and in Coventry, where we’ll be living, the set rose at 4:45ish and set at 9:45ish on their summer solstice – so I may get my wish of a true summer solstice party! I’ve also toyed around with the idea of traveling somewhere where they really do celebrate in style, maypole and all, like in Sweden. How fun would it be to participate in something that festive and with such historical roots?
The local winery we visited was still a beautiful setting, with rows of lavender in full bloom and a picturesque panoramic of the surrounding hillsides. We took these photos on our way back to town – I’m going to miss the lushness of the Virginia countryside in the summer, that’s for sure!
