Summer on the east coast can be hot and sticky, so on those almost unmanageable days, I find myself reaching for flowy, breathable wardrobe staples. I wore this look on our trip to Norfolk and Virginia Beach where the nearly 90 degree weather called for something a little lighter.
Summer also just seems to call for more boho-inspired items, a trend I’m always trying to incorporate more of into my wardrobe but often can’t find pieces that work for my body type or fit my lifestyle and personality.
I picked up these shorts from Target (they were on sale for $12!) and this sleeveless crop top during the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. I’d been looking for a similar top to pair both with high waisted shorts and several pairs of printed, high waisted pants I’ve been wearing non-stop lately. Pairing crop tops with high waisted bottoms is definitely one of my favorite ways to pull off a casual vibe without actually showing too much skin.
I’ve rounded up lots of cute boho-inspired looks below, but as I know, finding pieces that actually fit your lifestyle and don’t feel like a costume can be a bit challenging, so I recommend trying items on in person whenever possible or ordering from a site with free shipping and free returns (like Nordstrom!) so it’s easy to try pieces that might be out of your comfort zone with little risk. Also, finding pieces in your usual shapes and styles but with added features like embroidery can be another way to ensure you’ll actually wear the items instead of placing them in your closet with the best of intentions and then never actually pulling them back out again–something I am all too guilty of!
