In the past year or so, I’ve solidified a daily routine each morning to cleanse and wake up my body and digestive system that really makes me feel refreshed and ready to tackle each day, so I thought I’d share it all with you today!
1. Warm water with lemon juice. I try to make sure that the first thing that enters my body each morning is a 16 ounce glass of warm water with a splash of lemon juice added (I keep the Santa Crux Organics lemon juice concentrate in my fridge at all times.) Lemon juice can aid digestion and as an antioxidant, act as a natural anti-inflammatory. Plus, the warm water serves as a gentle wake-up to your body.
2. Green tea. While I’m tidying up in the morning, I always brew a cup of green tea (I love the Whole Foods generic tea bags) to drink during the first part of my at-home morning Barre3 class. Green tea also has lots of antioxidants and may even improve blood flow and lower cholesterol.
3. Another 16oz of room temperature water. As soon as I’m done with my green tea, I transition to another glass of water–which I usually drink during the second half or at the finish of my Barre3 class.
4. My go-to morning smoothie. I always prep this the night before, so I can just grab it after I work out to drink while I get ready in the morning. I rarely crave variety for breakfast because I know my body will feel so much better with this smoothie in the morning.
There you have it–what sort of morning food/drink rituals do you have?
