Happy Monday, everyone!
I hope you had a wonderful post holiday weekend! We still have a few more days in California left before we head back to a warmer Virginia–a strange concept this time of year!
The day after Christmas my mom and I decided to do a 1-day juice cleanse to counteract all of the holiday indulging that had taken place over the past few days or really, the entire month of December.
They have a somewhat new Pressed Juicery near their house so whenever I’m in town, I try to treat myself to a few fresh juices but I’ve never done an actual juice cleanse before.
For $39.50 (in store–its double that online because of shipping), we each received 6 juices and 2 waters to drink in the following order:
- Greens 2: apple, celery, cucumber, kale, lemon, parsley, romaine, spinach
- Citrus 2: apple, lemon, mint, pineapple
- Greens 3: apple, celery, cucumber, ginger, kale, lemon, parsley, romaine, spinach
- Roots 3: apple, beet, ginger, lemon
- Citrus 1: aloe vera, coconut water, cucumber, lemon, pineapple
- Vanilla Almond: almond, dates, sea salt, vanilla bean
We then had chlorophyll water to sip on throughout the day (to help balance ph levels) and aloe vera water to drink before bed (to aid digestion).
Overall, it was definitely an interesting experience. My energy levels started out pretty high but then dropped a lot throughout the day to the point where sitting on the couch and reading was all I really wanted to do. We supplemented the juices with non-caffeinated tea to help with the process and since the juices are spaced only two hours apart, it really did feel like we were consuming something pretty much all day.
It also got to the point that we were absolutely craving the vanilla almond juice at the end of the day since that had the most substance–420 calories and 28 grams of fat. Eventually, we also decided to drink a little homemade tomato broth towards the end of the night as well to help with energy levels.
Since its only been a few days since we cleansed, I’m not sure exactly what impact it will have but the day after, I really did have less cravings and felt pretty much back to normal overall.
