Although I may never live near the ocean again, the ocean + beach will always have a big part of my life. There’s just something about staring across the water, talking a walk through the sand, trekking out a pier, or riding a bike along the sea bluffs that just has such a calming, restorative effect on my mind + body.
So, instead of constantly longing for the beach, I’ve been trying to incorporate nautical accents into my everyday home decor. Now, I’ve kinda shied away from this in the past because I don’t want my home to look like a beach house or like a “themed” house. I think the key words are touches of beach/nautical elements incorporated throughout different rooms and mixed in with the rest of my decor to make the inclusion seem natural and not forced.
I also like the idea of focusing on smaller accent pieces like framed, muted, coral artwork in a hallway, a starfish pillow in an accent chair, shells and sea glass in a clear vase, an unexpected beach-y wall hook, a stack of starfish on a coffee table book…I think you get the idea. Just enough touches of nautical to keep me at peace and the feeling of the ocean always in my home.
