I’m always on the lookout for affordable, meaningful art. It’s so tempting sometimes to fill up the empty wall space with those cute but generic prints from Target or Cost Plus, but I feel like I’d rather take more time to search for something meaningful or that I really love, than to just put something up to fill the space.
Take for instance our collage of prints behind our couch in the living room. It contains a painting we purchased in France, a scenic picture of SLO where we took our engagement photos, two postcards from our trip to Switzerland, a wedding photo, a photo of the harbor in Morro Bay, and a print of La Boheme, the inspiration behind one of my favorite musicals, Rent. Of course, there are also two random framed keys, but they do look cute!
So when I saw a deal on GroopDealz for a custom 8×10 state print, I snatched it up. The artist, via an Etsy shop located in Hawaii, creates prints of the state of your choice plus a heart over the city of your choice. So, naturally, I chose California with a heart over SLO–it was where we got married after all! Going with the wedding theme, I chose a nice cornflower blue for the state color, which was one of our wedding colors.
The quality of the print is great and coupled with a barnwood-esque frame from T.J.Maxx, it makes a great addition of our art collection.
