Since November’s marathon in Richmond will probably be my first and only (we’ll see, I suppose), I’ve been trying to think about how I wanted to store/display that precious medal. I had originally wanted to create an ornament out of it, but that thing is heavy. And since the tree already fell over without any ridiculously weighty ornaments, I think I won’t push my luck.
The next logical idea seemed to be a shadow box, since the medal was too large and bulky to fit into a traditional picture frame. However, when I began my search, I was shocked by the prices. $40-$50 for a shadow box? No thanks.
So, I was absolutely thrilled when I stumbled across an adorable grey shadow box for $20 at where else? T.J. Maxx.
Once I had the perfect (and affordable) display case, I picked up some dressmaker’s pins from Michaels for $2.50 (with a 40% off coupon) this weekend and got to work.
I was a bit torn about whether or not to include my rumpled bib number, but it seemed too important to exclude. I may replace it eventually with a photo, but for now I love it.
I’m planning to hang it right by my bed as a constant reminder of what my body + mind can endure with a little, okay a lot, of motivation, dedication, and hard work.
