So I totally remember my first pair of printed cropped pants waaaay back in middle school. They were bright and patterned and everything about them was pretty much fabulous. Then, for some reason, I spent the next decade-ish of my life avoiding them or at least, not including them in my wardrobe because there really weren’t any options in stores any more.
I really had forgotten how much I used to love those pants until printed cropped/skinny jeans started popping up all over the place again. I snagged the pair in this feature at Talbot’s during a mini pre-new job shopping spree. I mean, blue + paisley? Come on. However, it look me awhile to figure out how to pair the printed crops with anything other than a white tee which really reduced the versatility of the look.
Luckily for me, inspiration for how to mix prints and patterns has been all over the place lately, so I happily settled down last weekend to create a few new printed pants looks. The first is a more casual look with a cutesy loft graphic tee and chambray shirt tied over the top. I like how the chambray balances out the pants and sort of camouflages the not so matchy-matchyness of the shirt. Also, this purse is one of my favorites ever by a Portland company called Queen Bee Creations, handmade in Portland, Oregon–and completely vinyl!
The second look is a bit more dressed up, perfect for a casual dinner date or movie. I love using stripes as the other neutral and since the stripes are blue, they tie into the whole color scheme. I then paired it with my favorite J.Crew imitation bubble necklace (thank you EBay!) and some oldish Banana Republic wedges that I love, although they are a bit too high to get regular use in my wardrobe.
Although I absolutely love these crops, I am now on the look out for a pair that is a little more tapered at the end and longer a la a skinny jean like these Ann Taylor ones. Hopefully I’ll find the perfect pair soon!
