Happy Friday, friends! And happy spring break to me–finally!
I cannot wait to spend the next week deep cleaning the house + closet + working on lots of fabulous things here on the blog!
A few weekends ago, Jeff’s Dad came down for a quick weekend visit during his spring break. His visit just happened to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day, so we were pretty excited to have an excuse to go out to brunch Sunday morning.
Back in SLO, St. Patrick’s Day is a HUGE event. All of the downtown bars open at 6am and are absolutely packed with college students all morning. I’m not sure if it was just because Virginia Tech’s spring break also coincided with St. Patrick’s Day or if it’s just not that big of a deal here, but it was absolutely dead downtown. Now, we only went out in the morning, so it may have picked up later in the day, but it was definitely a strange feeling after witnessing all of the festivities in SLO for so long (and yes, I was actually just witnessing–I usually worked that same day and needed my beauty sleep!).
I know I reviewed part of 622 North already–Frank’s Bar–but this was the first time I’d actually been to the real, non-bar, restaurant. The decor felt very southern, with walls lined with history books and chalkboard menus, and was overall very cozy.
To eat, we had:
Biscuits and Gravy with two eggs any way, two fresh baked cheddar biscuits topped with andouille sausage gravy, two slices of bacon and potatoes.
“Green” Eggs & Ham with two eggs scrambled with cream cheese, baby spinach, and green onions, served over capicolla ham and sourdough bread with side of potatoes.
622 Benedict Royale with two poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado, green onion and rich béchamel sauce on toasted sourdough. Served with potatoes and choice of bread.
The entire meal was to amazing, definitely one of the best we’ve had since moving. For those of you looking at going out Sunday, it would also make the perfect Easter brunch spot! I can’t wait to go back to try the dinner menu and wine bar soon!
