So now that we know what’s for Easter brunch dessert, let’s talk a little about the second most important part–what we’re wearing!
Fit and Flare dresses (dresses that are fitted to the waist but then have a full skirt) have been on my radar for awhile, but I wasn’t quite sure I wanted to dive right into this trend. I grew up doing lots of musical theater (it was how I met my husband!) and because of that, have done so many shows wearing similar dresses. Period, yes. Sexy? No way. So I decided I’d just stick to a more modern, streamlined look and watch this trend from afar.
True, I’m often a latecomer to trends because I need to see other people wear them and style them for awhile, sometimes for years, before I finally think I can pull it off. This time, however, all it took was the right dress in the right pattern. I was browsing the clothing section during my weekly trip to Target when I first saw the same print in a peplum top. I went to grab one to try on, but alas, they were out of my size. But because I’m Target obsessed, I immediately went home and did some online Target.com research and stumbled on something even better: the dress. And at $25 (after my red card discount), a total steal as well.
I debated for awhile about whether or not I should hem the dress up an inch or so, but ultimately, decided that the length worked for the style of the dress. I love how the print adds such a modern element to a classic, old fashioned silhouette, but I still wanted to play with my accessories a bit to make the look even more modern: bright yellow belt + oversized turtle stud earnings + studded bracelet.
Overall, I think this look will be perfect for Easter brunch, even if I make it myself for the two of us! (PS–ignore my crazy arm tan lines…hopefully the sun will come back soon so I can fix that!)
