You may remember awhile back when I posted about our new bar area, but today I wanted to break it down a bit to share with you what I consider my top bar area essentials.
I’m not sure why, but when we first moved into our apartment here in Virginia, one of the first things I absolutely had to have in the living room was a dedicated spot for a bar. Even before we moved and in random antique stores across the country as we moved, I had started collecting odds and ends to make up my collection for when we finally arrived and got settled.
I’m not sure what kicked off this obsession. It could have been the countless hours spent on pinterest browsing gorgeous bar carts and accessories or the ever growing collection of growlers from breweries across the country or our new found appreciation for gin and tonics in the heat of the summer. But whatever it was that jumpstarted the search, I wouldn’t stop until I’d put together what I thought would be the perfect bar area. For now, anyway.
Let’s break it down, shall we.
Bar Essential #1: The actual bar. I went back and forth between getting something more open without doors but ultimately decided too much dusting/cleaning would be involved for that look. In the end, I decided to go with this hutch from Target and its had the perfect amount of space to store everything.
Bar Essential #3: Pretty liquor packaging. Both of these items were Christmas presents from my parents this year, and I’m in love with the design. The bag on the left is vintage Seagram’s packaging and the Woodford Reserve is fancy and gorgeous bourbon whisky.
Bar Essential #4: Bar tools. I love combining vintage looks with modern functionality. I found this pretty cocktail shaker at an antique store in Fort Collins, CO and combined it with a muddler and shot measurer thingy I already had from Cost Plus.
Bar Essential #5: Various sizes of Glassware. My glassware is again a mix of vintage and new and contains many different sizes to optimize functionality. The large pitcher, perfect for making copious amounts of margaritas, is another vintage find from CO. The clear whisky glasses are also vintage as well as the amber shot glasses. The purple in-between size are actually from IKEA but mixed in with the vintage, you’d never be able to tell.
Bar Essential #6: Serving Trays. When I’m throwing a party, I like to have all of the barware items out of the cabinet and set out ready to go and this tray is perfect for staging this. The tray is also extra special because it belonged to my grandfather who died when I was a baby, so I love having a little something of his. It may be a little tarnished, but I always feel proud to show it off.
