Is it sad that one of my favorite parts about working full time is choosing what to wear each day? Don’t get me wrong, I loved when I could alternate between working and sitting on my couch playing on the internet all day or going to class in jeans and a t-shirt and still feeling overdressed, but there’s just something motivating about putting on real, professional clothes everyday.
Like I said last week, I’m a bit of a planner (funny, Kelsey), so I try to have my outfit hung up on my closet door the night before, so I don’t have to think about this in the morning. Most of this has less to do with being a planner and more to do with the fact that I can’t really function at 6am, and choosing something decent to wear is beyond my capabilities at that hour. I should say choosing something creative and decent, because I’m pretty sure I would end up in nearly the same outfit everyday if I let that happen.
So, sometime the previous night, I either look through my clothing app or my actual closet and pick out something to wear, hang it up, and am able to just grab and go in the morning. Lifesaver.
I’m lucky enough that work wear for me does not require suits and jackets everyday. I like to look professional, but still have the liberty to be creative with my clothes, as long as it still fits the office rules of decency: not too short or low-cut and looks put together. Pretty much a rule I follow outside of work too for that matter!
I especially love winter work wear because of all the fabulous layering that can happen. I have a gazillion pair of tights that I love to wear (thanks Sock Drawer!), so they are often a necessity and the layering just continues from there. One thing you’ll never see me in for work is high heels. No way. High heels are for people who don’t have to stand or walk continuously all day, and those of you who can do all of those things and wear high heels, are pretty much gods to me. These boots are about as high as it gets and only because they’re super high quality and comfy.
Today, I’m also doing my first (!) fashion link-up with one of my favorite bloggers and blogs, Tara at Mix and Match Fashion. Her blog is all about mixing bright colors and fun prints, something I’m always trying to do more of. You can click here to find my outfit as well as other bloggers sharing what they wear to work!

Just found your blog via Mix and Match, and I’m so glad I did! You look great! I love all the dark jewel tones together. And good for you for planning. I always mean to do that… and then never do.
Thanks so much Catherine! I wish I could get by in the morning without having an outfit set out but I’d be a mess!
I am loving the fun that those colored tights bring to this outfit. Thanks so much for linking up with me today!
Thanks so much for the opportunity, it was fun!
I plan all my outfits, too. I keep a calendar and write down my outfits for the week based on the weather forecast and which students I see that day (I teach high school, and we have block scheduling). I found your blog through Mix and Match Fashion, and I’m your newest follower! Feel free to check out my blog if you want.
