Happy Monday everyone!
I hope you had a great weekend! We spent the weekend finishing up a few projects around the house which, of course, resulted in a million trips back and forth to Home Depot and Target, but at least the house is starting to come together. I finally feel like we can do more living instead of just unpacking. Hopefully we’ll be here awhile because that was a lot of work!
Just when I was about finished hanging our {gorgeous} new picture wall, I got in a fight with the hot glue gun and lost horribly. As in the entire contents of the hot, melted glue leaked out the side and onto my pinky… But after a few hours of screaming, some topical pain killer, and a half a bottle of wine, I was ready to get back to work! The giant blister makes it a bit hard to type, so I apologize if there are any typos in this post :)
Before we left SLO, I went to High Street Deli one last time to share the sandwich joint with you here and because they make one of the best sandwiches ever–the California turkey with roasted turkey, ortega chilis, and avocado. Seriously, its amazing–I had it almost 3 months ago and was still dreaming of recreating it!
So Saturday night, we set out to do just that. Jeff made faux-sourdough sandwich bread in the morning (real sourdough takes about a week to make–it’s on my list of things to try soon!). Unfortunately, I forgot to pay attention so there’s no recipe, but any store bought sourdough should do (San Luis Sourdough is my fav!).
Next, we topped the chilis with havarti cheese and melted them in the broiler for a few minutes to create the melted/toasted effect without going “full” panini.
To make the sandwiches, we added a layer of avocado, which you can use instead of mayo if you want, sliced roasted turkey breast, the ortega chili/cheese, red onion, tomato, lettuce, and mustard. Some serious good stuff.
