Tick tick tick…we officially leave for Virginia 1 week from today! Even though every single day seems to be packed from beginning to end with packing and shopping and getting everything ready for the big move, we’ve still seemed to find time to squeeze in a few happy hours every week. Gotta make priorities, you know?
In SLO, Jeff and I went to happy hours all of the time simply because they were such a good deal. And now, since we’re all on summer vacation in Rocklin, the trend has continued, just with a party of 4 (my parents) instead of 2. Most recently, we went to the Roseville Mikuni location, a local sushi restaurant.
The Roseville Mikuni is located in the Fountains, a semi-new outdoor shopping area across from the mall that houses Whole Foods, Anthropologie, Vera Bradley, and lots of other fun boutique stores. Plus, the outdoor shopping reminds me of SLO–enclosed malls are just so stuffy!
We had planned to go to happy hourĀ andĀ a movie, but being the old people we’ve become, we just couldn’t quite handle that much excitement in one night–I guess that’s what happens when you move back in with your parents!
The Mikuni happy hour, however, definitely made up for the shorter night out. Their menu is extensive, with beer, wine, and cocktail specials as well as food specials arranged by price.
We started by sharing an order of Flaming Shrooms–mushrooms stuffed with crab mix, cream cheese, and jalapenos and then fried–and a cucumber salad.
For our entrees, I had a Philadelphia Roll with smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and masago. The masago (tiny orange fish eggs) kinda freaked me out a bit, but I just closed my eyes and tried not to think about it!
My mom had the Fair Oaks Roll with panko shrimp, avocado, masago, and onion.
Of course, the boys stuck to the land meat with an order of teriyaki chicken and Yaki Udon (not on the happy hour menu).
Overall, I thought the prices were great for the quality and size of the food, and the menu had a little bit of something for everyone.
