Happy Monday everyone!
I hope you had a spectacular weekend. It was another warm weekend here on the central coast–summer is definitely calling!
On Friday afternoon, Jeff and I headed downtown for our usual Friday happy hour session. This time, I really wanted to check out one of the new wine bars that seem to be popping up all around the city: Luis. Luis is located right by Blackhorse Coffee and Firestone Grill, at the very beginning of the downtown Higuera St. stretch.
It’s usually a battle for me to get Jeff into too many wine bars, but Luis also happens to have 4-5 craft breweries on tap at all times in addition to an extensive bottled beer list. That made the argument a bit easier!
The inside of Luis has a swanky, upscale vibe to it, but not so much as to scare away the more casual patrons. Plus, the wall-lined booths/bar tables were super comfy and inviting–definitely a reason to stay awhile! (Check out pictures of the inside on their facebook page here).
Plus, although they serve a few appetizer cheese/meats to go with the wine, Luis also lets you bring in outside food to munch on while you drink. We ended up bringing in some pizza we’d purchased earlier–they even brought us napkins and plates!
Jeff ordered a seasonal beer from one of his favorite breweries–Green Flash–while I ordered the Rose Pinot Noir wine flight. The glasses came with the names of the wine written right on the bottom. I recently saw someone do something similar on HGTV by dipping the bottom in chalkboard paint and then writing people’s names with chalk at a party. Another DIY project to add to the list!
Although I started with a flight of wine, the waitress knew we were both beer drinkers so she brought out a specialty Green Flash collaboration beer that wasn’t on the menu for us to try which was fun.
Overall, Luis is a fun addition to the downtown SLO wine scene. Both the beer and wine selection were great and the atmosphere and service couldn’t have been better. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to be back again before we leave!
