San Luis Obispo Dining | Firestone Grill

Firestone Grill is the staple college restaurant in SLO. On any given day, the line  stretches out the door and down the sidewalk as {mostly} college students wait to order. I wouldn’t have felt complete without blogging about it before leaving SLO!

On a side note, although it shares the same name, Firestone Grill shares no relationship to Firestone Brewery. The grill actually gets its name from its building–an old Firestone tire store.

The restaurant has pretty prime time real estate in SLO, perhaps one of the reasons for its popularity. They also recently redid their outdoor patio complete with fireplaces and string lights–a much needed renovation since most of the inside seating is dedicated to the sports bar area. (Note–this is not the restaurant to visit on a rainy day!)

Jeff and I used to go to Firestone all the time when we first moved so SLO simply because, well, that’s what people did. Some of our favorites are the pulled pork sandwich, tri-tip sandwich (what they’re known for), Firestone salad, and the ABC burger. Unlike my favorite BBQ joint in town, Mo’s, none of the dishes come with sides, but you can order a geneous side basket of fries for about $2.

On our most recent trip there, we decided to go all out…hello tummy ache!

I ordered the kid burger–just my size!

And Jeff ordered the pulled pork sandwich–my old favorite before I gave up pork.

Firestone also has one of my favorite restaurant salads–the Firestone Salad–with romaine, feta cheese, red onion, tomatoes, pine nuts, red bell pepper, and a basalmic vinaigrette.

And what meal would be complete without fries? This is a side basket–told you it was generous!

Although I usually prefer to stick to Mo’s, the laid back atmosphere and inexpensive food is perfect for anyone interested in seeing the college side–and budget–of SLO.

You can find more information about Firestone and their menu here.
