House of Bread is a fabulous little bakeries in SLO. Well, maybe not so little–they stock local grocery stores and have a few other locations in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Alaska, but they’re still pretty little to me, I suppose.
Their SLO store used to be located dangerously close to The Sock Drawer and their free samples were just a bit too accessible for my daily needs. They recently moved to a larger location on the fringe of downtown to allow for easier access for daily customers which is good new for my waistline but bad news for my taste buds!
House of Bread mainly serves, you guessed it, bread! They have a few standard loaves they make every day and also a special bread of the day. In addition, they often put out monthly specials for holidays like Irish Soda Bread for tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day.
Jeff and I picked up a loaf of their Potato Rosemary to accompany our beef stew earlier this week and it was amazing! I mean, what makes better carb-friendly bread then adding more carbs to it!
In addition to bread, House of Bread also has scones, cinnamon rolls, granola, sandwiches, and other baked goodies. They also host monthly baking classes that sound like so much fun–another thing to add to the bucket list!
