Splash Cafe is a cute little bakery and sweet shop located on Monterey St. just outside of downtown SLO. You may remember me mentioning them when we picked up our bread bowls there for our homemade clam chowder. Or if not, that’s okay too because I’m going to tell you all about it today!
The original Splash Cafe is a little hole-in-the-wall right up the street from the pier in Pismo Beach. I used to love to go there when my family would visit the area when I was younger for their chicken strips, and of course, their award winning clam chowder. The SLO spot is located right next to the swanky Petite Soleil hotel and as you might have guessed, much more upscale.
Like they’re southern counterparts, Splash Cafe is always packed with people grabbing a comfort food lunch–clam chowder, chili, sandwiches, and pizza. The SLO location also has yummy pastries baked fresh daily and houses some of Sweet Earth Chocolates. Don’t these look so delicious? I had to hold myself back from ordering one of each!
I wasn’t there for lunch, however–I was there for their breakfast sandwiches. The basic sandwich has egg, tomato, onion, and a special thousand island-esque dressing and then you can add the meat you want to make it a bit more special. I normally just get the basic sandwich when I am there, but this time I treated myself to something a little extra special: the smoked salmon breakfast sandwich. It is so amazing! They serve their sandwiches on homemade sourdough rolls to complete the mouth-watering experience.
I am definitely loving having a few days off, can’t you tell? You can find out more information about Splash Cafe and Artisan Bakery on their website here.
