It was another horrible weekend on the central coast last week filled with sun, the beach, and lots and lots of eating…tough place to live right? During one of the times I was dragged to Avila Beach, I decided to check out a small eatery I’d been curious about for awhile–Mission Pizza.
A self-proclaimed sandwich freak (after all, I did post 2 sandwich recipes this week alone!), I’m always on the look out for more places to indulge my obsession. After doing a quick google search for “Avila Beach+Sandwiches,” I stumbled across Mission Pizza, a small pizza and sandwich joint attached to and owned by Custom House. Since Custom House is one of our Avila favorites, I was excited to finally have an excuse to try its little sister.
The restaurant itself sits rather unassumingly on a side street which is probably why I’ve walked past it so many times without noticing. Inside, it definitely has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it but in a family friendly, laid back kind of way.
After scouring the menu online before I took off (obviously!), I decided to order the Rancher’s Choice: a sandwich with sliced chicken, mission ranch dressing and mozzarella, baked in the pizza oven and served with lettuce and tomato. The sandwich itself was a little dry, but decent in a town of slim restaurant pickings. Plus, at $6.50 for a sandwich with fries, I was happy.
Overall, it’s a great place for a quick kid and wallet friendly meal–you can check out their menu here.
