Who’s ready for an easy semi-homemade, semi-store bought/assembled dinner tonight? I know it’s more than just me! After all of the mind-numbing, soul-sucking (did I just see a dementor?) website work last week, I needed something quick but fresh for dinner, and this pizza was it. The homemade part: the creamy garlic sauce. The store-bought/assembled part: pretty much everything else. Making the garlic sauce from scratch saves a ton of calories and additives, while the rest are some of my favorite Trader Joe’s products I always have stocked in my pantry.
Number one: TJ’s pizza dough. I’ve talked about it over and over, but you really can’t beat the price and quality of this stuff!
Number two: TJ’s marinated artichoke hearts. Give me a fork and a bottle of these, and I am one happy woman!
Number three: TJ’s marinated bell peppers. I love adding these to salads as well.
Number four: Chicken sausage. We used Aidell’s Chicken and Apple Sausage from Costco, but use any brand you like.
Number five: Mozzarella. Because what’s a pizza without it?
Ready. Set. Go!
Creamy Garlic Sausage Pizza
Serves 4
Ingredients:
Pizza Dough
4 chicken sausages
5-6 marinated artichoke hearts, chopped
3-4 marinated bell peppers, sliced into smaller pieces
1 cup mozzarella, grated
1 head garlic
2 cups milk
1 cup sharp white cheddar
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
Olive oil
Steps:
Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
Peel off outer layer of garlic, cut off top, wrap in aluminum foil, and place in oven. Bake for about 30-35 minutes.
Remove garlic cloves (they should just squeeze out), set aside, and increase oven temperature to 450 degrees.
Meanwhile, in a small sauce pan, combine butter and flour to form a roux. Add milk and reduce until thick, about 5-6 minutes. Add garlic and cheese, and combine.
Heat oil in a frying pan. Add sausage and cook until skin is blistered, about 5 minutes per side. Remove and chop into smaller pieces.
Roll out pizza dough and spread white sauce evenly on top. Add cheese, sausage, artichoke hearts, and bell peppers.
Bake until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy!
Time: 1 hour
